5 out of 5 stars Boombox review   February 3, 2010
We purchased this boombox for my mother who lives alone and has problems operating the new modern electrical equipment. However, she has been able to use this boombox for all her needs.

5 out of 5 stars I do like this product   February 1, 2010
A. Aguilar (NY, USA)
I've tried it only three times and I already love all the features. Have to wait more time to see if it performs as well as it does now. For the moment, it's what I wanted, cd player, mp3 player, cassette recorder. Besides, it comes with a USB port and a slot for an SD card.

4 out of 5 stars Treats CD's like separate MP3 tracks   February 1, 2010
shelded (Pacific NW USA)
For the price and features I am happy enough. Between cuts of a classical CD where movements run together there is a volume reduction and gap between tracks where should not be -- it ruins the experience. I dislike how all these things are shaped like footballs instead of boxes. I like the top-mounted headphone and AUX jacks, we always use them. The screen requires an angle to view it, so what, but what's worse is the bright light from it in a dark room. That light is on even when not playing anything unless you move switch to another off mode. I hot-glued the power plug in so it won't wear out based on feedback here and my prior boombox experience. It played my 8GB USB stick but the wait was not worth it -- stick with 1 or 2 GB SD cards. I've not yet figured out the proper tagging so I put albums in folders and number the folders. Did not play the one and only MP3 data CD I gave it... I thought it was supposed to, but the same tunes on SD card worked fine.

2 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for   January 18, 2010

Got this unit for a kids room - it was used over the course of maybe 6 months and total play time could not have exceeded 6 hours at most. unit broke - what happened is that the volume would not exceed the level of a distant headphone. on any input, on any volume setting. the thing is now in the garbage.

on the plus side, it does look nice so uhm.. i guess it would make a decent decoration or door stop

4 out of 5 stars Almost Sent It Back...BUT!   December 29, 2009

I was looking for something that would take MP3 CDs and/or SD/USB MP3s AND cassette tapes for my wife. This fit the bill. I ran into some of the same problems already mentioned here so I will address them.

The display is a lighted display which can be seen optimally/only from above and not in front. It can be seen in the dark, though.

I had the same difficulty with MP3 CDs as another reviewer. All the MP3 CDs I used were created on my home computer. All except one would only scan for a few seconds then move to the next without playing anything. Taking a tip from one reviewer (and seeing the bit rate for the CD that would play) I lowered the bit rate to 128 or lower (set of larger files worked at 112 but not 128). Those discs were burned with the same burner as before and worked fine. I tried different discs and burners before figuring this out.

I also had problems with MP3s on a 512MB SD card. Some songs cut short, some continued to "play" past the end (silently), and it would not do all on the card. It also locked up and quit playing (turned it off to reset) after playing only so many files. These songs were 192 bit rate. I lowered the bit rate to 128 and now it works fine. NOTE: to play songs (or "see" them) in "order" they need written to the card in that order. I even formatted the card to get this right.

Another problem I ran into was the CD player showing a CD was a "Bad Disk". This resulted when it was running on batteries (8Cs). The batteries were unused but were not new nor optimal, however.
